Custom Workflow Types & Applications

What Is a Custom Workflow?

Part3 comes loaded with powerful document types—but we know that sometimes, you just need one more. And then… another one. Now you can create as many custom workflows as your team needs, tailored exactly to how you work. 💫

We offer three powerful types of custom workflowsIssuance, Response, and Submittal—giving you complete control over how documents flow through your team. In this article, we’ll break down each option, how they function, and share real-life examples to inspire your setup.

#1 Issuance

The issuance workflow functions much like our Change Documents, allowing multiple consultants to collaborate seamlessly on a single document type. It includes individual cover pages for each consultant and supports multiple collaborators throughout the process—making it ideal for coordinated workflows!

✅ Best used for:

  • Tender addenda
  • Consultant Reports
  • Sequential tendering packages
  • Project schedules
  • Any document requiring a cover letter + attachments

Tip: You can always disable the Part3 auto-generated cover page if you're just logging a document. For example, if you're logging a consultant report, you likely don't need another cover page.

#2 Response

The Response workflow mirrors our familiar RFI flow. Each document includes a cover page, which acts as a formal transmittal to track responses, plus the flexibility to upload as many attachments as needed.

It’s a simple, structured way to manage responses when input or clarification is needed from other parties—without jumping into the full RFI process.

✅ Best used for:

  • Tender RFIs (keeps numbering separate from construction-phase RFIs)
  • Change requests triggered by the GC (rather than the consultant team)
  • Review and response to documents like schedules, inspection reports, testing summaries, and more

#3 Submittal

The Submittals workflow closely mirrors the standard Submittals flow you’re already familiar with. It includes a cover page, supports divisions, and tracks statuses—keeping everything organized as documents move through multiple hands.

✅ Best used for:

  • Closeout submittals that require organized tracking and formal submission
  • Alternates to track product alternates proposed by the GC
