AI-Powered Submittal Assistant


Most projects generate a large number of submittals, and reviewing each one against the Project Manual and drawings can be incredibly time-consuming. Even though everything must comply with the project specifications, you’re often working under tight 5–7 day deadlines to review and return submittals to the GC.


That’s why we built our AI-powered Submittal Assistant — to help you move through reviews faster and surface the key information you need, right when you need it. 💫


This article will walk you through how to enable the assistant and how it works.


Enable the Submittal Assistant

You can enable the Submittal Assistant as soon as your Project Manual has been uploaded to the project. The assistant relies on your Project Specification Manual to compare each attached shop drawing or submittal against the specs — this is what allows it to provide helpful review hints.

If you didn’t enable the Submittal Assistant when you first uploaded your specs, no worries — you can enable it anytime by:

  • Go to Settings, and under the General tab you’ll see the Enable Submittal Assistant option.

Simply toggle it on (it will turn blue), and you’re all set!


How it works

In simple terms, when you upload a submittal, Part3 will compare the contents of the submittal against the Project Manual specifications.

Note: The division number of the submittal must match the division number format in the Project Manual. This is why it's super helpful to generate the logs using our AI tool. The log tool searches the project manual for any mention of: submittal, mock-up, and/or sample, in order to auto-generate.

Ex: A submittal under division 07 80 00 Fire and Smoke Protection should be entered in Part3 using the division code 07 80 00.

✨To start getting your Submittal hints, you need to upload a document.

Step 1: Find the division in the logs you have a submittal for, or create a submittal using the +submittal in the top right corner.

Step 2: Upload the attachment(s) you want to review.

Note: If you would like to change the title of the submittal, click 'Edit' in the top right corner.

Step 3: Once the attachment has been uploaded, you will see this screen to let you know we're reviewing the submittal against the project manual.

Step 4: In a minute or two, the hints will appear! Right now we surface hints for Manufacturer, Testing Standards, Colors, and Warranty.

Hint icons:

Green checkmark = Match

Orange checkmark = Looks like a match, but double-check!

No icon = we do not recognize it in the project manual


You can also select ✨additional hints to generate more AI hints to help with your review!

These helpful hints will give you a head start on your submittal reviews! No need to go through the project manual to see if the manufacturer is listed, or wonder if it meets those NFPA standards, or wonder what color it should be!


Use the ‘Compare Spec’ Feature


Quickly and easily review your submittal document alongside your project manual with the Compare Spec feature. Here’s how:


Step 1: Open the submittal you want to review

Step 2: Click ‘Compare Spec’ at the top of the submittal document.

Step 3: Use the highlighted Review Hints pages to jump directly to matching content across both documents!

👀 Remember, these hints are hints. We're not here to replace you, we just want to make your reviews faster, and maybe even enjoyable. Always remember to double-check your Project Manual and do your due diligence.
