ProjectFiles: Version Drawings - Instructions & Changes

When a drawing gets revised as part of a change or instruction, Part3 versions it automatically and keeps your drawing set up to date. This article shows you how to add drawings to your Site Instructions, Proposed Changes, and Change Directives — and how to make sure they're properly versioned when you issue.

🔄 Prime Consultant Workflow

Step 1: Open Your Document

Create or open your Site Instruction, Proposed Change, or Change Directive as you normally would.

If you haven't created one of these before, check out these articles:

Step 2: Add Your Drawing

Click the +Add Files button and select 'Add drawing' to attach your revised sheet or sketch.

Step 3: Upload and Review

Drag and drop your PDF. You can upload a single sheet or a multi-page PDF — Part3's AI will automatically split it into individual sheets for you.

💡 Tip: You can upload a full drawing package and Part3 will split it apart automatically — no need to separate files beforehand.

During the upload, review and fill in the following:

  1. Drawing No. and Title — Check for accuracy. This must match the original drawing for Part3 to version it correctly.
  2. Issuance date — Typically the upload date or the revision date shown in your title block.
  3. Description — Optionally add a brief note about what's being updated or revised.
  4. Document type — If it's not a full drawing sheet, change this to Sketch or Attachment.

Click 'Save and next' to review all sheets, then 'Upload all' when ready.

Step 4: Edit if Needed

All uploaded drawings will appear in the document. To edit any details, click the three dots next to the drawing and select Edit.

Step 5: Issue Your Document

When you're ready to issue, select issue in the top right corner.

Part3 will automatically ask whether you want the attached drawings to become the latest version in the drawing set. This is selected by default — deselect it only if you don't want this revision to update the drawing set.

✅ Once issued, the new version is stored in the Drawings section and linked back to this document — so anyone on the project can trace what changed and why.

👥 Consultant Workflow

When a consultant is invited to collaborate on an instruction or change document, their drawings and sketches are versioned the same way.

Note: If your consultant doesn't want to use the Part3 auto-generated cover page, it can be disabled.

Step 1: Add Your Drawing

Click the 'Add Files' button and select 'Add drawings'.

Important: If your file contains any drawing sheets, always click 'Add drawings' — not 'Add files'. This ensures Part3's AI can process and version each sheet correctly, and gives you the option to identify a cover page during review.

Step 2: Upload and Review

Drag and drop your file, then fill in the drawing details as described below. Click 'Save and next', then 'Upload all' when ready.

Step 3: Let the Prime Know

Once your drawings are uploaded, notify the prime consultant that you're done so they can review and issue the document.
