What's Changed: Project Templates

When creating a project we know there are repeatable items like document names, IDs, disclaimers, and custom workflows. That's why we've created Project Templates! 🌟

Set a project up the way you want it, save it as a template, and reuse it on every project after!

Why it's better

  • Set it up once, reuse it forever. Configure a project with your firm's document names, IDs, and disclaimers, then save it as a template. Use this template when creating new projects to save time.
  • Your custom workflows come too. Any custom workflows you've created (like bid RFIs or addenda) are captured! Templates carry your custom workflows, so you're not rebuilding them project by project.
  • More than one way of working is fine. Do you have different nomenclature on different project types? Save a template for each and pick the one you need at project creation.
  • Built from a real project, so it's complete. Instead of filling in a settings form and hoping, you set a project up the way you like and save it. What you see on that project is what your new projects get.
  • You can see and edit what's applied. Templates live under your organization settings. Open one, change a name, an ID, or a disclaimer, and every future project picks up the changes.

What This Means for Your Existing Setup

  • Your old settings were saved for you. If your organization had cover page settings configured, we've created a template from them, named after your firm. For example if your firm is called Russ Corp, look for Russ Corp legacy defaults. It holds the same document names, IDs, and disclaimers you had before, so nothing is lost.
  • Your existing projects are untouched. Every project you've already created keeps its own settings. Templates only ever apply to new projects.
  • You'll now choose a template when you create a project. There's no default, so pick one before you continue. Choose your firm's legacy defaults template to get the document names, IDs, and disclaimers you're used to. Choosing 'Part3 default' starts that project from Part3's standard naming instead.
  • It's a starting point, not the finished article. Your legacy defaults template only holds what the old organization settings were able to hold, which doesn't include custom workflows. Once you've got a project configured the way you actually want it, save that as a template and use it going forward.
  • You can rename, edit, or delete it. It's a normal template, so treat it like one.

Where Did the Cover Pages Section Go?

Everything the cover pages section did now lives in project templates, and your configuration moved with it. Go to Settings → Project Templates and open the template named after your firm to find the document names, IDs, and disclaimers you set up there. → Project Templates
